New to Rottnest Island – the ultimate Western Australian adventure tour

A new ocean-to-plate boat cruise for seafood lovers has launched in Rottnest Island, Western Australia. The Wild Seafood Experience by Rottnest Cruises blends two of the State’s great icons − Rottnest Island and the Western Rock Lobster (crayfish) − in the ultimate luxury adventure tour.

The 2.5-hour epicurean cruise is the first-ever interactive seafood tour on Rottnest Island, with departures daily from January 7, 2019.

On board Rottnest Cruises’ fully-equipped multi-level charter vessel, guests catch − then dine − on an elaborate banquet of sea-fresh delicacies, cooked live in an open, on-board kitchen. All this, while taking in Rottnest’s Insta-perfect views and enjoying unlimited beverages served while cruising.

Owner of Rottnest Cruises, Myrianthe Riddy, said the tour was designed as a hands-on, complete sensory  experience to showcase Western Australia’s plentiful seafood supply.

“We are fortunate to be blessed with the most amazing, sustainable seafood here,” she said.

“We know from our experience of running seafood tours in Mandurah, that guests enjoy the chance to connect what they eat with where it’s from. They love the interactive element of catching crays themselves and seeing them go from the ocean to the barbecue, to their plate.”

Cruising in paradise

Departing from Thomson Bay, the Wild Seafood Experience takes guests out to the open ocean, where they haul in cray pots, before sizing, handling and learning facts about the local Western Rock Lobster from Rottnest Cruises’ crew.

On returning to turquoise-blue waters of one of Rottnest’s calm bays, such as Longreach or Parakeet, guests have the chance to swim off the boat or watch the action of a live seafood barbecue cooked for them on board.

A delicious seafood banquet is then served, centred around the fresh-cooked crayfish from the day’s catch, plus Blue Swimmer crabs, sashimi salmon, freshly-shucked oysters, fish tacos, prawns and octopus, with side salads, fresh bread and condiments. Canapes and sparkling wine on arrival, with dessert to finish, round out the lavish three-course menu.

Served throughout the cruise, are unlimited still and sparkling West Australian wines (Millbrook / Mad Fish), plus bottled beers and soft drinks.

“The chance to cruise on the boat, eat fresh seafood, drink and swim if you’d like to, with Rottnest and its waters as a backdrop, is so unique and luxurious. Our guests really think it’s magical.”

Rottnest Cruises’ Wild Seafood Experience operates from Rottnest Island from 11am to 1.30pm, with tours daily from January 7, 2019. Private and corporate bookings also available. Introductory cruise cost (valid until February 28, 2019) is $175 per adult or $125 per child (not ideal for children under 5) and is fully inclusive of three courses (canapes, seafood buffet lunch and dessert), with unlimited beverages.
